The best 2024 New York earthquake memes

They’re shaking — from laughter. 

The internet was flooded Friday with funny and sarcastic memes poking fun of New Yorkers’ over-the-top reaction to the 4.8-magnitude earthquake that rattled the area with no reported injuries.

“Photos of the destruction out in Long Island,” one user quipped on X along with a photo of a single toppled lawn chair.

A flood of memes poked fun of New Yorkers’ reaction to the earthquake Friday.

 “I AM FINE,” the official Empire State Building account tweeted in mock reassurance.

Others spoofed the temblor as nothing but a blip.

“Did anyone else in NYC feel that earthquake,” another meme teases — along with an image of a destroyed Statue of Liberty.

Some memes pointed out that the quake was just a blip.

“New Yorkers telling Taiwan how bad their earthquake was,” proclaims one meme featuring a photo of Mel Gibson sitting comfortably in a directors chair next to a bloody Jesus Christ.

Another including a photo of an overturned trash can declared sarcastically, “We survived the NYC earthquake. We will rebuild.”

New Yorkers take nothing seriously, some X users said.

Others used “Sex and the City” to tease New Yorkers.

One user spoofed New Yorkers with a “Sex and the City” meme.

“As New York was hit by an earthquake, i couldn’t help but wonder, were the tectonic plates as unstable as my history with Big?” reads one meme accompanying an image of Carrie Bradshaw typing on her laptop.

New York City sent out an emergency alert about the earthquake.

“Did we shake or were we shook?” a meme featuring Oprah Winfrey ponders sarcastically.

Twitter was flooded by earthquake memes Friday.

“New York seeing where the earthquake originated,” reads another meme featuring an actor squinting at the phrase “New Jersey.”

Meanwhile, another tongue-in-cheek meme proclaims, “I survived the NYC earthquake on April 5th, 2024” — as another X user called the Big Apple the worst place to experience an earthquake because New Yorkers take nothing in earnest.

An “I survived” meme went viral on Friday.

The 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Lebanon, NJ, around 10:23 a.m., sending scared residents into the street.
