Jayden Daniels-Commanders rumors grow as 2024 NFL Draft looms

The whispers are growing louder for former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels to be drafted second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

On his FS1 show on Monday, Colin Cowherd revealed that a source is telling him that Daniels is the favorite to be drafted by the Commanders in that slot.

“I’ve been told the Washington Commanders as of today would choose Jayden Daniels,” Cowherd said Monday.

He added that his source said that the Commanders view Daniels as “more consistent” and “quicker” than Drake Maye and that Washington offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury has meshed with a number of mobile quarterbacks like him.

Daniels won the Heisman Trophy at LSU last season, throwing for 3,812 yards with 40 touchdowns with just four interceptions.

The Bears are widely presumed to be taking former USC quarterback Caleb Williams first overall.

Late last month, Daniels was the betting favorite with -135 odds to get picked second, but former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy was gaining steam, skyrocketing from +2500 to +350 in a matter of days.

As of this posting, Daniels’ odds have gotten shorter to get picked second, as he is -160 on DraftKings.

Former North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye is +140 and McCarthy is +300 to go second in the latest odds.

There had been some concern on social media about Daniels last month as a photo made the rounds showing him to have a lump the size of a golf ball hanging off his throwing elbow.

However, Dr. Laith M. Jazrawi, the Chief of the Division of Sports Medicine at NYU Langone Orthopedics, told The Post that this was hardly a cause for concern.

“It’s surgically corrected. It’s not a reconstruction or a ligament repair,” Dr. Jazrawi said.

“It’s nothing you need to wait on healing time. It’s really, you take it out and you’re fine. And it’s not even painful to begin with for some people, which likely includes Daniels, because he had it and he wasn’t complaining. It sounds like he played pretty well.”
