Philadelphia toddler dies after shooting herself in the eye with father’s unsecured gun: police

A Philadelphia toddler accidentally shot herself in the right eye with her father’s handgun — and died two days later.

Kayden Barnes, 3, found her dad’s gun inside their home in Philly’s Germantown neighborhood around 1:15 p.m. on Saturday and began playing with it before accidentally shooting herself, WPVI-TV News reported.

Police said the gun was unsecured and both of the youngster’s parents were home at the time.

Kayden was rushed to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where she was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m. on Monday, according to the outlet.

Police said a man in the home was taken into custody for questioning but was later released without charges, WPVI reported. It is unclear if the individual was the girl’s father.

Cops did not say where in the home Kayden found the gun.

The toddler’s shooting death came one day after the father of another Pennsylvania youngster was charged with involuntary manslaughter after his 3-year-old son shot himself with a gun.

Jose Hilario Abreu, 28, was booked Friday in the March 28 death of little Elija Abreu Borgen, who was shot and killed when he and another toddler played with his dad’s loaded semi-automatic handgun in their Allentown home, police said.

Abreu allegedly walked out of the room where the kids were playing, leaving the gun behind.
