Experts say this NYC airport is the most luxurious in America — really

They’ve got to be JFKidding.

John F. Kennedy Airport in Queens, New York was just named the most luxurious airport in the U.S., Travel & Leisure reported.

All Clear Travel Insurance released their findings about which airport was the most luxurious in the world in February. They ranked airports based on how many nearly 4 and 5-star hotels there are, how many designer stores there are and how many passenger lounges they have. The airports needed to have a minimum of 10 airport lounges to be in the running.

Airports were also judged on whether high-flying visitors could find a champagne or caviar bar, which is the epitome of luxury, according to those collecting the data.

JFK was ranked number one in the US but only ranks 11th globally. It lost out on rankings because it didn’t have many luxury airports early but it did have 22 airport lounges as well as 16 luxury stores. Food & Wine also ranked JFK in seventh place for airports with the best food in the world.

Food panelists recommend trying the Palm Bar & Grille in Terminal 4, which “brings New York steakhouse energy to the airport.” This is also a nod to the airport’s “luxury.”

Coming in first place for the most luxurious airport in the world is Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates, followed by London, England’s Heathrow Airport, Hamad International Airport in Qatar, Charles de Gualle Airport in Paris, France and Sydney International Airport in Sydney, Australia.

While certain things about JFK seem quite high-brow, other surveys rated the airport as one of the worst in the US.

It’s certainly not the cleanest airport, for starters. It’s also a hassle to travel to and from JFK. Perhaps, JFK is only great for those who can afford caviar or to buy a designer purse before a flight to Europe on a whim.

Last year, experts at the Family Destinations Guide used data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics to determine which airports had the most flight delays and cancellations. JFK was eighth on their list for travel.

JFK is also one of the worst airports to commute to, according to a 2019 survey from travel news website The Points Guy. It also has some of the slowest security lines.

Another survey found that experiences at JFK airport are “inconsistent” — and some travelers agree, according to their rants online calling the hub “the worst.”

JFK is the absolute worst airport I have ever been in. Whhyyyy is everything so far!?,” wrote one exasperated passenger earlier this week on X.

Declared another, “Okay JFK, you’ve reasserted your position as the worst international airport to fly into the US. You didn’t need to … No one challenged your claim.”
