NYC couple gets engaged on Delta solar eclipse flight: ‘I wanted it to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience’

As the moon covered the sun, one New York City man saw the stars align as he proposed to his girlfriend during a special solar eclipse flight.

Neil Albstein proposed to his girlfriend Michele Rosenblatt, both of New York City, on one of Delta’s solar eclipse flights Monday — an unforgettable moment he’d been planning for two months, he told the Detroit Free Press.

“I wanted it to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so it just seemed perfect to combine it,” the newly engaged Albstein told Reuters.

“It seemed like I could never come up with anything else so special to propose to her.”

After viewing the rare celestial event from 30,000 feet, Albstein got nervous as he prepared to pop the question to Rosenblatt, and luckily she said yes.

“Once the eclipse happened — because I knew I wasn’t going to propose before the eclipse — once it happened, then my attention shifted and I started getting nervous,” he told Reuters.

Rosenblatt was seen excitedly saying yes with tears in her eyes before the pair shared a few kisses as their fellow passengers cheered.

As the pair landed in Detroit, they were smiling ear-to-ear.

The Post has reached out to the couple for comment.

Delta Airlines offered two “path of totality” flights to Detroit with one departing from Austin and the other from Dallas.

It was the first time the company has offered such a flight in its 100-year history and it had its pilots go through extra simulation training to perfect the “S-turn” maneuver to allow optional viewing from both sides of the aircraft, the airline said in a statement.

The eclipse became visible to passengers about halfway through the flight.

Albstein wasn’t the only one with a diamond ring on his mind, as more than 300 couples got hitched in Arkansas just moments before the moon blocked the sun.

Even the eclipse got into the action, forming a “diamond ring” over Carbondale, Ill.

A “diamond ring” is created when two brilliant sunspots simultaneously extinguished during the rare celestial event. A similar effect can happen just as the sun and the moon are about to slip into a full eclipse.
