Giants sign veteran linebacker Matthew Adams

One year after hitting the free-agent jackpot by adding a linebacker originally drafted by the Colts, the Giants went to the well again.

The Giants announced Friday the signing of Matthew Adams, who has played in 85 games with 13 starts over his career with the Colts, Bears and Browns.

The expectations for Adams are very different than they were one year ago for Bobby Okereke, who lived up to his four-year, $40 million free-agent contract by playing every defensive snap and totaling 149 tackles with four forced fumbles in his Giants’ debut season.

Adams, 28, has 98 career tackles, including some on special teams, which is his primary role these days.

The former seventh-round draft pick led the Browns with 435 special-teams snaps last season while also logging 97 on defense.

Adams and Okereke were teammates for three seasons with the Colts.
