Montclair, NJ police officer recovering after being shot near township’s high school

A police officer in a tony suburban New Jersey town was shot near the local high school on Monday afternoon, reports said.

The officer suffered “non-life threatening” injuries after being shot at 2:45 p.m. on Forest Avenue — a block from Montclair High School, according to WCBS-TV.

One other person was also injured in the shooting and was being treated at the hospital with the unidentified cop while students were asked to shelter in place as officials investigated, the station said.

The shooting was confirmed by New Jersey State PBA in an X statement that was shared by Gov. Phil Murphy.

“Tammy and I are praying for the officer in Montclair who was shot earlier today. Our men and women in uniform put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe,” the governor wrote.

Union officials also offered their prayers while saying the officer was expected to recover.

Neither Montclair Police nor the Montclair Public School superintendent’s office immediately responded to inquires from The Post and the circumstances of the shooting were unclear.

Violent crime in the artsy well-heeled enclave of about 40,000 was significantly below the national average, according to Niche.

The town is home to many notable personalities in art, media and journalism — including “Late Night” host Stephen Colbert, and was also the hometown of pioneering astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
