Betting markets react after NFL mock draft has Giants trading up for J.J. McCarthy

Put down another mock drafter who believes the Giants are flirting with Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

Peter Schrager has the Giants not only taking McCarthy but trading up to do so, and the betting world takes notice when he’s using his spidey senses to eek out teams’ plans.

McCarthy is now +350 to be drafted by the Giants on Bet365 Sportsbook, down drastically from the 16/1 odds from early March and down slightly from the +550 he was prior.

These are the third-best odds on the market, behind the Minnesota Vikings at +120 and the New England Patriots at +260.

Schrager isn’t the only mock drafter who has the Giants heavily considering drafting McCarthy as a replacement plan for current starter Daniel Jones, with The Post’s Ryan Dunleavy having the Giants selecting McCarthy but sitting at No. 6 to do so.

The smoke for the Giants to draft a quarterback has been rising since they scouted North Carolina signal-caller Drake Maye during the regular season.

Maye doesn’t look like he will be available for the Giants at six, but McCarthy just might, and that’s where things seem to be trending at this point.

McCarthy won the national championship as a member of the Michigan Wolverines and he wasn’t asked to a whole lot as the team went undefeated.

But one could argue he did what his team required and he got a ringing endorsement from coach Jim Harbaugh, who said he should be the No. 1 pick.

It doesn’t seem like he will go that high, but he is -155 to go in the top five of the draft.

That doesn’t mean a whole lot after last season, though, as Will Levis was -10000 at this time to go No. 2 overall but ended up free-falling to the second round.

Although there are plenty of examples of draft odds being ahead of the curve, like when Paolo Banchero was +700 to go No. 1 overall in the 2022 NBA Draft but fell dramatically as NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski was proven incorrect.

There are plenty of instances where Schrager’s information was rock solid and bettors should always be taking notice.

You may remember Schrager’s accuracy when the Jets drafted Sauce Gardner at No. 4, as well as Kyle Shanahan’s fascination with Mac Jones.

Shanahan was ultimatley overruled by General Manager John Lynch and Co., but he has clear relationships with that coaching tree.

Schrager’s first mock draft moved the lines on many other NFL Draft props, including the Rams, to draft an offensive player for the first time under head coach Sean McVay.

Los Angeles was favored to draft a defensive lineman in round one at -150, but that has flipped quickly to offensive line favored at +125.

Wide receiver has also moved, as they were 17/1 to draft a receiver to pair with Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua but that has dropped to +800 on FanDuel.
