Physical media isn’t dead: get a new Blu-ray player for less than $90 on Amazon

It’s no secret that streaming has taken over the entertainment industry. When every movie or show you could possibly want to watch is at your fingertips at the click of a button, it’s hard to feel nostalgic for the days

Between streamers cracking down on password sharing, titles being pulled from streaming services at random, and more, there are ever-growing reminders that we don’t truly own what we stream. There’s clearly a reason why over 3,000 Amazon shoppers have bought the Sony BDP-BX370 Blu-ray player in the past month.

I’m primarily a commerce reporter over at the New York Post’s sister site Decider; of course I love streaming. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t slow amassing a collection of physical media as well.

Blu-rays and 4K discs are making a comeback (not that they every truly left) — when Oppenheimer‘s 4K and Blu-ray discs first hit shelves they were selling out quicker than Universal could produce them. That’s thanks, in part, to director Christopher Nolan’s work on perfecting the details of the home release to mirror the theatrical experience as much as possible.

Getting started with a new DVD setup doesn’t have to be expensive, as evidenced by this well-reviewed Sony Blu-ray player available for just $88 (which is, coincidentally, the one I bought when I decided to start my Blu-ray collection).

It even has streaming built in thanks to Wi-fi connection and an interface that allows you to download and log in to all of your favorite streaming apps.

The Blu-ray player is super easy to set up with an included HDMI connection, and once up and running, you can watch Blu-rays in full HD quality in addition to upscaling classic DVDs in as close to full HD as possible.
