What a heartbreaking, disgraceful and infuriating story on the death of former NYFD firefighter Derek Floyd (“Bravest tragedy,” April 29).
New York should be ashamed of itself. But the sanctuary city is more concerned about the well-being of illegal migrants than of a former US Marine and firefighter.

I was appalled to read about the firefighter who died of a heart attack after being fired so that illegal immigrants could be cared for.
His family is now left to fend for itself thanks to the evil people running New York. Shame on the New Yorkers who voted them in.
And shame on all of us who have allowed this country to become the mess it is today. I pray it’s not too late for us to do something about it.

Please tell me how New York could terminate a firefighter while he is on restricted duty because of a heart attack that occurred during his employment in 2019?
The reason for his termination was because New York needed money to pay for the hotels, cell phones and food of illegal immigrants. But when is our city going to start taking care of all our first responders?
In 2023, they tried to strip the city’s retirees of the benefits that they were promised when they took an oath to put their lives on the line every single day. And yet they wonder why so many individuals are reluctant to work for the city. Shame on them.

What a disgrace — the city turned its back on Floyd, who was a firefighter and veteran.
Floyd passed away on April 15 without his life insurance policy from the city because the administration had to make cuts for the budget, leaving his wife and children struggling financially.
Meanwhile, New York continues to spend billions of dollars on illegally migrants. It is disgraceful.

The Issue: Potential GOP vice presidential nominee Kristi Noem bizarrely brags of killing her dog.
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem stated that her innocent puppy was “less than worthless” when, in actuality, it is Noem herself who is less than worthless (“Noem’s dog tale of terrorizing,” April 29).
But don’t be surprised if former President Donald Trump chooses her as a running mate. And don’t forget that his two worthless sons also enjoy hunting and murdering innocent animals.
I expect to hear Trump praise her at his next rally.

In retrospect, maybe Noem would have been a better VP fit for President Biden, what with his “out of control” German Shepherds.

If you are one of the many people outraged to hear that Kristi Noem shot her 14-month-old puppy because she was having a hard time training him, I’ve got news for you: The difference between you and Noem isn’t as big as you think.
Chances are, you are in the vast majority of Americans who eat animals and their byproducts.
If you are unwilling to avoid slaughtered meat, the difference between you and Noem is simply that she chooses to do the dirty work herself.
