2-year-old boy dies after bounce house blows away in wind gust, crashes in neighboring lot: ‘Tragic accident’

A 2-year-old boy died Saturday when a bounce house he was playing in was swept up by a gust of wind and crashed in a neighboring lot in Arizona, authorities said.

The giant inflatable went airborne around 5 p.m. with several children, including the tot, inside, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said, according to the Arizona Republic.

The 2-year-old was rushed to a local hospital and later pronounced dead from his injuries while a second child sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office reportedly said.

The sheriff’s office called the incident a “tragic accident.”

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the grieving family,” the office said, according to Fox 11. 

The young victim, identified by a family friend as Bodhi, is the son of a Phoenix firefighter, fire officials said in an Instagram post.

“To add to the unimaginable hell that they have been through the last 2 days, [parents] Karl and Cristy are expecting a child at the end of May,” Phoenix Firehouse 25 wrote online.

A fundraiser was started for the distraught family and has raised more than $83,000 so far.

“As a community, we want to offer our support and alleviate the financial burden that accompanies such tragedies,” a family friend wrote. “Your donations will help Karl and Cristy focus on grieving their beloved Bodhi while also preparing for the new chapter in their lives.”
