It’s safe to say Sandy Alderson was not the biggest fan of Billy Eppler.

You’re going to want to listen to “The Show” this week with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman.

Alderson kept it candid on his Mets tenure, including Eppler as general manager and the phantom injured list that was used.

The 76-year-old notably led the Mets to a World Series appearance in 2015 while serving as their general manager during his initial run.

The Mets made the playoffs twice during his stint as GM.

Alderson returned to the team in 2020 with new owner Steve Cohen, ultimately becoming team president.

“The Show” podcast with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman:

  • METS & YANKEES: Mets’ offense needs to do more. Do the Mets get Kodai Senga back at some point? Mets have room to grow and can be better than we expected. Yankees’ pitching needs to get better and not walk as many guys.

Sandy Alderson interview: Former Mets GM, team president

  • HEALTH/JOB: Cancer-free for past two years. Has taken a step back from baseball since role with Mets ended.
  • LOOKING BACK: At career and time with Mets. Wish they won the World Series in 2015. Will always appreciate the opportunity Cohen gave him.
  • STEVE COHEN: Great owner and has learned a lot over the past few years. Fully expects he will utilize his resources.
  • FAKE IL SITUATION: Sandy used the phantom (then DL) IL once in his career in the 1980’s. Felt terribly about it and never did it again. It’s been used improperly around the league. Thought the issue was behind the Mets.
  • BILLY EPPLER: Was not a big fan of him. Thought at the time it was the right hire.
  • DAVID STEARNS/PETE ALONSO: Less emotion and hard realism on whether he signs Pete Alonso. Pete deserves a long-term deal.
  • ATHLETICS: Reacting to what is going on with their future.
  • BUCK SHOWALTER: Loved working with Buck Showalter. Faced a situation where he didn’t have as much flexibility as he would have liked.
