Don’t care too much for money? Paul McCartney UK’s first billionaire musician

Baby, he’s a very rich man! But can it buy him love?

Paul McCartney is the first British musician to become a billionaire, with an estimated net worth clocking in at $1.27 billion.

The milestone landed the legendary 81-year-old former Beatles singer and songwriter on The Sunday Time’s Rich List, which was released on Friday.

It also makes him the only member of the Fab Four to reach a billion. McCartney joined John Lennon’s The Quarrymen in 1957 at just 15-years-old. The group evolved into The Beatles, picking up Ringo Starr and George Harrison, and played together from 1960 to 1970.

Sir Paul, who was knighted by by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997, shares the wealth with his wife Nancy Shevell, 64, daughter of the late US trucking tycoon Mike Shevell. The pair, married in 2011, landed at 165th on the Rich List.

The “Can’t Buy me Love” singer has been working like a dog.

Along with the valuable Beatlemania-inducing back catalogue, McCartney’s successful 2022-23 Got Back tour also gave him a financial boost, according to British newspaper.

Starr has called McCartney, who later went on to start the band Wings, a “workaholic” and credited him for The Beatles putting out so much music. The group released 12 studio albums between 1963 and 1970 and are the highest selling band of all time.

And McCartney recently got by with a little help from his friend Beyoncé who covered “Blackbird” on her new album “Cowboy Carter,” released in March.

A “final” Beatles song, “Now and Then,” was also released in November and topped charts in multiple countries.

McCartney has released 17 studio albums and earns an estimated $400,000 to $600,000 annually from royalties on his solo “Wonderful Christmastime” alone, according to reports.

The father of five also owns MPL Communications, which was founded in 1969 and controls the rights to more than 25,000 songs.

About $63 million of the couple’s fortune is estimated to come from Shevell.

Another famous couple who landed on the annual list is David and Victoria Beckham, who ranked 297th, with more than $597 million between them. The soccer star and Spice Girl’s Netflix show, “Beckham,” was the most-watched documentary in the world last year.

The top spot went to Gopi Hinduja and his family, who own the Hinduja group with businesses ranging from trucking to banking to cable television. They are worth more than $46 billion.

Other entertainment figures on the list include “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling and singer Elton John.
