Scottie Scheffler’s PGA Tour buddies are roasting him over his arrest last week.
Xander Schauffele, who won the 2024 PGA Championship on Sunday for his first career major, revealed on Barstool’s “Pardon My Take” that he and several other golfers, including Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth and Gary Woodland, were razzing Scheffler about his Friday morning arrest following a traffic incident outside Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., that left a police officer with “pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist and knee,” according to a police report.
“We have a group chat with our physio, our team, it’s me, Gary, J.T., Jordan, Scottie, Pat, we all share the same physio,” Schauffele said. “So the boys were heckling Scottie a little bit, just enough.”
When host PFT Commenter said the photo of the group chat had to be changed to Scheffler’s mugshot, Schauffele replied, “Obviously that happened.”
There was an added police presence outside Valhalla on Friday morning after a man who was working with a vendor at the PGA Championship was struck and killed by a shuttle bus.
Scheffler, who was driving to the course for the second round of the tournament, said “there was a big misunderstanding” in a “very chaotic situation” and believed he was doing what cops were asking him to do.
The police report alleges the two-time Masters champion “refused to comply” with Det. Bryan Gillis’ directions and ended up “dragging” Gillis to the ground as he accelerated.
Gillis was taken to a hospital for treatment, the report said.
Scheffler, 27, was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic.

No Laying Up reported the charges against Scheffler were expected to be dropped, though as of Wednesday, he still has an arraignment scheduled for June 3; it was originally set for Tuesday but was postponed.
“He handled it really well in Scottie Scheffler fashion,” Schauffele said. “He’s a good dude. As soon as I saw it I thought it was a prank, and I saw it on the news and I was like, ‘Holy smokes,’ this actually happened.
“It feels like he’s gonna come out OK from all this. It feels like things are gonna get dropped, I don’t know.”
