Trey Wingo rips Ian Rapoport over ‘intriguing’ Eagles signing

Trey Wingo appeared to call out NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport on Thursday in a post on X.

It started when Rapoport reported on a relatively mundane signing by the Eagles, who announced the addition of former Giants and Bengals receiver John Ross on a one-year contract.

That then led to Rapoport quoting the post by the Eagles about the signing and writing on X, “An intriguing signing…”

That led to a rather snippy reply from Wingo — though its unclear if his post was meant in jest — about Rapoport’s thought.

“Why? Name one thing about it that’s intriguing,” Wingo, the ex-ESPN “SportsCenter” anchor, wrote on X

Ross is a former first-round pick by the Bengals back in 2017, but his time in the NFL has been marred by injuries.

He had signed a futures contract with the Chiefs in January 2023 but informed the team he was retiring seven months later.

Ross had accepted an invite to Eagles rookie minicamp as a tryout player and was signed following the retirement of DeVante Parker, which opened up a roster spot.

While Rapoport found the addition “intriguing,” users on social media seemed to be in Wingo’s camp about the signing.

“Yeah, Ian. While I’m happy to see John get another opportunity how is a guy who hasn’t played in a NFL game in 3 years & whose best season saw him haul in 500 yards an intriguing signing?” one user wrote

“We are all Trey Wingo,” another person replied to Wingo

Ross’ two best seasons came during his time in Cincy, first in 2018 when he had a career-best seven touchdown catches before a 2019 in which he had a career-high 506 yards.

During his lone season with the Giants in 2021, Ross appeared in 10 games and made one start, recording 11 catches for 224 yards and one touchdown.
