US Air Force base breached by teenage migrant evading police: sources
A Mexican national breached a US Air Force base in Texas while on the run from cops — the second national security incident on a US military base this month.
Border Patrol agents in the Del Rio, Texas, region stopped an SUV near Laughlin Air Force Base, which prompted a 17-year-old Mexican male from inside the vehicle to run.
He then jumped a fence and entered the base, a spokesperson for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) told The Post.
The runner was caught an hour after the breach and taken into custody alongside four adult men who were also in the vehicle.
All are believed to be in the US illegally, according to sources.
“A cordon was established adjacent to base housing to ensure the safety of residents during the incident,” the base said.
The breach comes after an attempt by a pair of Jordanian migrants on May 3 to breach Marine Corps Base Quantico with a box truck.
The attempt was foiled by quick thinking base staff and the two men are now in ICE custody in deportation proceedings.
The incident has led politicians to scrutinize the Biden administration’s handling of the southern border and security at military bases.
Over 7.6 million migrants have been apprehended at the southern border and an additional 1.7 million migrant “gotaways” illegally sneaked over unapprehended during the Biden administration.
In March, a Chinese national illegally in the US attempted to drive onto Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms in California after guards told him he was not authorized to enter, Marine Corps officials told Military.com.
