Equestrian star Georgie Campbell, 37, dies in fall at UK event

A professional equestrian married to an Olympian died Sunday when she fell at an event in the UK.

Georgie Campbell, 37, suffered a fatal fall during the Bitcon International Horse Trials in Devon, the governing body, British Eventing, said.

“Medical professionals attended immediately following her fall at fence 5b however, unfortunately, she could not be saved,” the announcement read, without detailing the exact injury.

Georgie Campbell was a respected pillar of the UK eventing community.

The pro rider fell into the water at a fence known as the Symonds & Sampson Splash on the cross-country course, according to Horse & Hound magazine. Local police confirmed that “the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

The horse, Global Quest, was examined by vets at the scene and walked away from the accident uninjured.

“To respect the family’s privacy at this extremely difficult and sad time, no further details will be shared,” said British Eventing, which on Monday also sent “heartfelt condolences” to the rider’s family and friends.

Campbell had competed in more than 200 events, including the five-star competitions Badminton and Burghley, the BBC reported.

She won six times, the outlet said.

Campbell was married to fellow eventer Jesse Campbell, who competed for New Zealand at the Tokyo Olympics.

The couple combined their talents to form Team Campbell Eventing, which frequently shared competition videos and updates on Instagram.
