The longtime San Francisco home of two prominent philanthropists lists for $38M — the priciest property now for sale in the city

An opulent abode has hit the market in San Francisco with a price tag of $38 million, making it the most expensive home currently for sale in the city.

Located in the Pacific Heights neighborhood, the last house on the posh stretch of Outer Broadway, the property was for many decades the residence of late philanthropists George and Lucille Jewett, who constructed the 10,000-plus-square-foot pad around 1986.

During their decades at the four-bedroom compound, the Jewetts were known for entertaining such esteemed guests as Nancy Pelosi, former President George H.W. Bush and England’s Prince Philip, their son George Jewett told the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the address going up for sale.

In addition to entertaining high-profile visitors, Lucille — who passed away last year, just days before her 95th birthday — was also well known for her love of the San Francisco Ballet, where she was a board member from 1969 until her death.

George, a businessman in the forest products industry, passed in 2008 at the age of 81, following a cerebral hemorrhage. A huge fan of sailing, he was inducted into the America’s Cup Hall of Fame in 2005.

The residence offers sweeping views from one of San Francisco’s most prime vantage points, with the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands and Alcatraz all visible.

Its numerous amenities include a balcony spanning the home’s width, a spa-equipped gym, a solarium and a seven-car garage.

Although it wears the crown for the San Francisco market’s current highest price, it would need to get significantly more than its ask to set a new record. In 2021, a property down the street sold for $43.5 million, setting a city record, according to the Journal.

The listing is held by Stacey Caen and Joe Lucier of Sotheby’s International Realty.
