‘The Show’ Episode 104: Royals GM J.J. Picollo Talks Impressive Season Thus Far

The Royals have undoubtedly been the biggest surprise in baseball so far this season.

They still have 101 games to play, but they are 36-25 and in second place in the AL Central.

This comes after winning just 56 games in 2023, good for the second-worst record in MLB.

It’s clearly been a drastic turnaround for the boys in Kansas City.

A big reason for it? A strong offseason led by GM and President of Baseball Operations J.J. Picollo.

He joined Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman this week on a new episode of “The Show” podcast.

“The Show” podcast with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman:

  • ALL-STARS: They go through their All-Stars thus far from each position.

  • SPENDING MONEY: Thought they had some good young players and needed to add some veteran free agents.
  • STRONG SEASON: Did you think you would be this good? Health has been good and big part of having success.
  • BOBBY WITT: Very little risk in signing him long-term. He checks so many boxes.
  • SETH LUGO: They liked that he got a year as a starter under his belt.
  • ADDITIONS: They could potentially use some help in the bullpen. They may have to address the outfield.
  • 2015 WORLD SERIES: Aggressiveness with that team and resilience. They weren’t afraid to make a mistake.
