Viral $3.99 Trader Joe’s tote bag is now reselling for $100 online
Trader Joe’s is back with the next big mini trend: cooler bags.
The grocery store’s latest trending product is a summertime upgrade from their viral mini tote bags.
The new mini insulated tote bags are selling for $3.99 each in stores — and are already showing up on resale sites.
Available in two colors, teal and magenta, the 1.5-gallon bags with a zipper top were put on shelves Tuesday and will be available in-store for a limited time, Trader Joe’s confirmed to Axios.
The bags can easily be used as a lunchbox and are “perfectly sized for everyday use,” TJ’s said.
Social media posts suggest that certain stores put the trendy new bag out for sale a couple days early — and some stores have already placed a purchase limit on them.
Each individual store gets to decide on purchase limits, and one South Florida Trader Joe’s store is only permitting shoppers to three of each color (a total of six), according to Axios.
One account on Instagram posted a photo of the mini bags being sold at an unspecified Trader Joe’s a few days early, and the sign read that there’s a limit of two of each color.
“The next big thing. Apparently it’s like Black Friday at our TJ. There was a line this morning. 8am and it was sold out by 8:06. We did not get one. 😢😢 missed it by 5 ppl,” someone shared in the comments.
“here we go again,” one person quipped.
A customer shared on X, formerly Twitter, that their Trader Joe’s location had people lined up to get the insulated totes before the store even opened — and they sold out in just eight minutes,
Someone else admitted that they were one of the customers who arrived to a store before opening, because they weren’t “getting left out like I did with the mini totes!”
Though the grocery retailer has made it clear that they “do not endorse the re-sale of any of our products, anywhere,” people are still attempting to sell the product for a profit.
A set of two insulated bags — one in each color — is currently listed on eBay for $99.99, while a set of 10 is listed for nearly $500.
Meanwhile, a company spokesperson told USA TODAY that some stores may have already sold out of new mini insulated tote, but there will be “more available later this summer.”
