Dan Hurley, wife attend Billy Joel concert at MSG as Lakers rumors swirl

Dan Hurley had a date night with his wife to see The Piano Man as he mulls whether to say hello to Hollywood.

The UConn coach and his wife, Andrea, attended a Billy Joel concert Saturday night at Madison Square Garden as he’s being courted by the Los Angeles Lakers to be their new head coach.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday that the team is aggressively pursuing Hurley. It was contrary to The Athletic’s Shams Charania’s early report that Los Angeles had deep interest in JJ Redick as a coaching candidate

The offer the Lakers are gearing up for Hurley is in the neighborhood of eight years for $100 million, according to Lakers insider Anthony Irwin. That would make the national championship winner one of the NBA’s highest-paid coaches.

Hurley, who was at the show Saturday with UConn assistant Luke Murray, would be taking over a Lakers team led by stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis that finished 47-35 and lost to the Nuggets in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

He would also be getting a significant raise from his current six-year, $32 million deal at UConn, which sees him make over $5 million annually.

Hurley, 51, has led UConn to back-to-back national championships, driving the Huskies to a 68-11 record over the last two seasons.

Hurley is 455-292 at the Division I level and he is 141-58 in his six years at UConn, which includes four straight NCAA Tournament bids.

Before UConn, Hurley had a successful stint at Rhode Island, leading the Rams to two NCAA Tournament trips.
