Safety Marcus Maye is headed to South Beach.
Maye, a former member of the Jets and the Saints, signed a deal with the Dolphins on Monday, according to multiple reports.
Maye had “multiple teams interested” in his services but felt the Dolphins are a Super Bowl contender and is said to “love” their roster, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
The 31-year-old had been cut by the Saints in March and has been a free agent since, with the Dolphins adding a solid player for their secondary.
He was first selected by the Jets in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft and spent his first five seasons in the league with Gang Green before he played the last two with the Saints.
Maye tallied six interceptions and five forced fumbles in his five seasons with the team.
He then signed a three-year, $22.5 million contract with New Orleans as a free agent in 2022, and the Saints cut him with one year left on his deal to help with their salary cap situation.
The Saints only saved $1.1 million with the move, per ESPN. Maye had been slated to count $9.6 million against their salary cap.
After playing in 16 games three times with the Jets, Maye appeared in just 17 games across his two seasons with the Saints, including seven this past season.
He missed the first three games of this past season after violating the league’s substance abuse policy, stemming from a 2021 DUI arrest.
Maye has started all 77 games that he has played during his career, recording 409 tackles, eight interceptions, 28 passes defended, five forced fumbles and 4.5 sacks.
The Dolphins also signed former Bills safety Jordan Poyer in an attempt to fortify their secondary.
