Yankees vs. Royals prediction: Marcus Stroman won’t shut down Bobby Witt Jr.

The underrated Royals offense has proven it can make contact and reach base no matter the opposition in the first third of the regular season.

Kansas City ranks third overall in expected slug percentage ahead of Tuesday’s game against the No. 2 ranked Yankees.

Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. had 47 RBIs entering Monday, tying him for eighth in the majors.

Witt Jr. had a .433 quality of contact rate, placing him in the top five along with Aaron Judge and Juan Soto.

Marcus Stroman, who has been stellar on the road, faces a Kansas City lineup that has mashed right-handed pitching at Kauffman Stadium for a .278 average.

In terms of expected quality of contact metrics, the Yankees’ bullpen is a bit overvalued. The Royals’ staff owns a 4.22 ERA behind Brady Singer.

Both starters draw plenty of ground balls from their breaking pitches, but neither has limited high exit velocity well.

I think the Royals’ plate consistency matched against the Yankees’ power hitting has potential to flourish.
