Bystander shoots knife-wielding menace who was harassing NYC food vendor: sources

A knife-wielding menace who was harassing a Midtown hotdog vendor Tuesday night was shot by a witness who intervened in the confrontation, according to police and sources

The 39-year-old man was threatening the street vendor on 33rd Street and Broadway around 8 p.m. when he pulled out a knife, started scraping it on the ground and pointed it at four men standing on the corner.

One of the men then pulled out a gun and shot the instigator in the leg, according to police sources.

One person is in custody, however, it was not immediately clear if he is the shooter or not, the sources said.

The unidentified shooting victim had an outstanding warrant, according to cops.

He was taken by EMS to Bellevue Hospital, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
