I told my mom not to upstage the bride — she wore this to the wedding anyway

A woman has been blasted online for her “outrageous” mother-of-the-bride outfit at her daughter’s wedding.

There are a few key rules all wedding guests should adhere to when attending a wedding: do not wear white, and do not upstage the bride.

While this generally applies to guests, it’s a rule especially true for the mothers of the couple.

Well, it turns out one mum didn’t get the memo, and it’s really got people talking … for all the wrong reasons.

Mother slammed for “inappropriate” outfit

Early in April, 57-year-old Pauline was proudly attending her daughter’s wedding to German actress Aky Niwa.

According to news outlets, Pauline’s daughter, Jin Cheng, a famous Taiwanese actress, made one special request to her mother in the lead-up to her wedding day: Do not upstage the bride.

At first, Pauline reportedly wanted to break this rule by wearing a white dress, but Jin begged her mother to avoid wearing anything that may distract from the happy couple.

However, Pauline was set on showing off at her daughter’s big day, so she opted for something else.

Instead of the white dress she planned to wear, she wore a blue bikini underneath a sparkly and completely see-through mesh gown.

In photos shared on social media, Pauline can be seen striking a pose with her new daughter-in-law and daughter, proudly showing off her incredible figure in the blue dress.

Despite the flesh-flashing dress, it seems that her daughter wasn’t too fussed with the outfit. Later, the Taiwanese actress shared a cute snap of the newlyweds with their moms on social media.

“There is no us without you,” she captioned the photo dedicated to Pauline.

“I’d be fuming if I were the bride”

But not everyone was pleased with her outfit choice, especially for an event as sacred as a wedding.

Some argued Pauline was an “attention-seeker” at her own daughter’s wedding, and some labelled her with “Main Character Syndrome.”

“I would not have allowed her anywhere near my photographer,” a person wrote. “Tacky!” said another.

“Oh heck no, I’d have kicked her out,” another agreed.

“Mother or not, you cannot do this and expect people to NOT give you grief over it.”

“That’s so inappropriate to wear underwear at a wedding,” a comment read.

“I’d be fuming if I were the bride,” another noted.

“Why would you wear a bikini to a wedding? You’re not at a beach, and you are the mother of the [bride.]”

But others saw things differently.

“If you’ve got it, flaunt it,” someone wrote.

“If I looked like that at 57, I might also want to run around mostly naked all the time,” another laughed.
