Christian Scott not returning to Mets’ rotation — yet

Don’t expect to see Christian Scott back in the rotation anytime soon.

With three off days scheduled in less than three weeks, the Mets don’t figure to need another starter until after the All-Star break, which begins July 15.

Carlos Mendoza said Tuesday the team was still having conversations about the best time to bring back Scott, who pitched well in four of his five starts for the Mets after being called up from Triple-A Syracuse.

“We have a lot of off days coming up, so a five-man rotation is best for us moving forward,’’ Mendoza said of the right-hander who turns 25 on Saturday.

He last pitched last Wednesday, as the Mets keep an eye on his innings. Scott pitched five innings in that outing — allowing just a run on two hits — and is scheduled to start again Wednesday for Syracuse.

“We’ll see him back here,’’ Mendoza said before the Mets’ 4-2 loss to the Marlins at Citi Field.

Another important part of the rotation is also expected back after the All-Star break, with Kodai Senga having thrown his first bullpen session on Sunday since his comeback from a strained shoulder during the spring was interrupted by triceps tightness.

Mendoza said Senga had Monday off and then did some long toss on Tuesday.

The next step, according to Mendoza, will be a second bullpen session either Wednesday or Thursday.

“He’ll continue his progression,’’ the manager said. “Now that he’s getting on a mound, that’s a good sign.”

Edwin Diaz is expected back when he’s eligible to come off the 15-day IL on Thursday, Mendoza said.

Diaz has had two rehab appearances with High-A Brooklyn after being sidelined with a right shoulder impingement.

The most recent outing came on Sunday and he threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

“He looked pretty good,’’ Mendoza said. “He’ll be off [Wednesday] and the plan is to activate him Thursday.”

It’s mostly been a rough season for Diaz, who missed all of last season with a torn patellar tendon in his right knee.

After getting off to a solid start, the right-hander was knocked around in four of his last five outings prior to landing on the IL.

Diaz’s velocity remained down during his rehab stint and hasn’t gotten back to the level it was before last year’s injury.

This season, his four-seamer has averaged 97 mph.

During Diaz’s dominant 2022, it was 99.1 mph.

With Diaz out, the Mets have relied on a closer by committee, as four different relievers picked up saves.

Starling Marte had two of the team’s four hits in the loss after sitting Sunday, following his miscue in right field in Saturday’s loss to the Phillies in London.

Mendoza said Sunday was a planned off day for Marte, who he wanted to keep off the turf there in one game. He had two of the team’s four hits.

The bullpen gave up just an unearned run by Adam Ottavino in 4 ¹/₃ innings.
