Nick Wright blasts ‘disingenuous’ Aaron Rodgers for missing Jets’ mandatory minicamp

Nick Wright could barely contain himself while Colin Cowherd introduced a segment on Aaron Rodgers on Tuesday, resting his chin on his hands like a young child awaiting Christmas gifts.

“This is unbelievable. This is unbelievable,” Wright said. “Go ahead, I can’t wait for this.”

And then, Wright unleashed on his nemesis.

Wright, the FS1 personality, blasted the Jets quarterback for being “disingenuous” after Rodgers skipped Tuesday’s mandatory minicamp to attend another event.

“There were two events being held on June 11, both of which Aaron Rodgers felt the need to attend and he chose this other one over the Jets’ mandatory minicamp. And to do that two weeks after you talked about how you wouldn’t be playing if you didn’t think you could win the Super Bowl and be MVP and three months after you lectured the whole organization for not having its priorities right, it’s just so disingenuous,” Wright said on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.”

“It is just so wildly disingenuous and ‘Do as I say and not as I do.'”

Wright has been quite vocal with his harsh stance on Rodgers in the past, particularly regarding his stance with COVID, calling him “the most disingenuous athlete of my lifetime” back in December.

Wright later labeled Rodgers a “malignant force” during the quarterback’s beef with Jimmy Kimmel.

So, it’s no surprise he came out swinging like Aaron Judge on Tuesday after Rodgers spurned the Jets to attend what coach Robert Saleh described as a “very important to him” event.

Wright noted Tuesday how he’s been criticized before for targeting Rodgers for off-the-field antics instead of his football performance, but Rodgers opened the door for him this time.

“People get very mad at me because they say, ‘When you talk Jets, when you talk Rodgers, I know you don’t like some of his stances or you don’t agree with him on certain things, but make it about football. You always talk about the other stuff,'” Wright said. “And my answer is, because with this iteration of Aaron Rodgers, the other stuff is inextricably tied to the football to the point where he double-booked mandatory minicamp. That’s what he did. Double-booked.

“‘Oh, gosh darn it, I knew there was something June 11. Oh, what was it?’ First day mandatory minicamp, gonna have to miss one. ‘Well, I guess I’m gonna have to miss the football.'”

Wright said Rodgers is “five standard deviations” past what normal hypocrisy would allow, and actually praised the Jets for stating Rodgers’ absence was “unexcused.”

He offered a bleak outlook for the Jets while they try to return to the playoffs with Rodgers at the helm.

“I don’t know how anyone can think it’s going to get better for here for the Jets,” Wright said. “Everyone tried to just pretend the fact that he openly considered running for Vice President as well, since he’s not doing it there’s nothing to worry about now. The fact that was on the board told you all you needed to know about his level of commitment to this football team at this point in his career.

“I think it’s absolutely pitch perfect that he can’t be bothered to attend minicamp. It’s just perfect.”
