Boy, 16, busted in NYC shooting death of ‘peacemaker’ Mahki Brown outside swanky hotel: cops

A 16-year-old boy was busted Wednesday in the shooting death of another teen who was trying to break up a fight between two female classmates outside a swanky SoHo hotel last month, cops said.

The arrested teen – whose name was not released because he is a minor – was nabbed in Newark by the Regional Fugitive Task Force and returned to the Big Apple around 9 a.m. to face a second-degree murder charge in the May 7 slaying of Mahki Brown.

Authorities said Brown was killed opposite the Dominick Hotel on Spring Street.

A 16-year-old boy was busted Wednesday in the shooting death of another teen who was trying to break up a fight between two female classmates outside a swanky SoHo hotel last month, cops said.

The 16-year-old is the second person arrested in connection to the deadly broad daylight shooting.

Henry Thomas, 19, who allegedly pulled the trigger, was cuffed on May 17 and is facing the same charge, police said.

The newly arrested teen’s exact role in the crime is unclear.

Brown, an avid basketballer from Crown Heights, was shot in the head and took two bullets to the leg in the brazen shooting, cops said.

He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The slain teen – who was a student at the nearby Broome Street Academy Charter High School – had been playing “peacemaker” in a fight between two of his female classmates before the shooting broke out, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said last month.

One of the girls involved ended up calling her brother for help, Kenny added.

Two males then showed up on a Citi Bike – one of them opening fire on a group of roughly 30 kids.

“He stepped in to break up the fight,” the chief said of the victim.

Brown, who was described by loved ones as caring and respectful, was with his girlfriend when he was shot.

“I was with him,” the distraught girlfriend told The Post in the aftermath.

“It’s hard. I just keep seeing him on the ground.”

The deadly shooting came during a violent week for teens in the Big Apple – at least two were killed and six others were wounded in a rash of shootings and stabbings across the five boroughs.
