Paige Spiranac torches Brandel Chamblee over ‘hatred’ of Bryson DeChambeau at US Open

Paige Spiranac wasn’t happy with NBC golf analyst Brandel Chamblee’s comments about Bryson DeChambeau after the LIV Golf star won his second U.S. Open on Sunday.

“Brandel saying ‘good fortune’ is why Bryson won the US Open is wild,” the golf influencer wrote in a post on X. “Doesn’t even try to hide his hatred for him. Smh.”

DeChambeau, the 2020 U.S. Open champion at Winged Foot Golf Club in New York, sat down with Chamblee for an interview after the major concluded at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina, and the two seemed cordial and in good spirits.

However, some golf fans agreed with Spiranac and called out Chamblee — who’s been critical of LIV players in the past — on social media.

“Brandel Chamblee hates Bryson DeChambeau. It’s beyond unprofessional,” an X user wrote. “I pray a NBC producer gets in his ear and says ‘you know you’re making it obvious, right?'”

Another added that Chamblee was “praying for Bryson’s downfall today” during the U.S. Open.

This isn’t the first time Chamblee stirred buzz with his on-air commentary.

Anthony Kim, a three-time PGA Tour winner, said Chamblee is “what’s wrong with golf” during a recent podcast appearance on “Country Club Adjacent,” and that he “talks about stuff he knows nothing about.”

Kim called Chamblee a “talentless fool” in a post on X over the analyst’s about-face on LIV Golf in May.

Spiranac, who collaborated with DeChambeau on a golf video earlier this year, celebrated his win Sunday on social media.

“Wow what an incredible US Open! Congratulations to Bryson Dechambeau!” Spiranac wrote in a post. “Such amazing golf, drama and entertainment! This is what golf needs.”

Spiranac also weighed in on Rory McIlroy’s swift exit after his collapse over the final four holes at Pinehurst, where he didn’t stick around to witness DeChambeau’s victory celebration.

“Hot take but I don’t care when athletes do this,” Spiranac wrote, including a video of McIlroy leaving in a Lexus SUV right after the final hole. “He gave us everything he had on the course and gave us such an entertaining day. I feel for Rory right now and can’t even imagine how he’s feeling. Cut him a break.”

McIlroy watched DeChambeau’s winning putt on TV in the scorer’s room before he exited less than 10 minutes later, according to ESPN.

The Northern Irishman did not talk to the media.

McIlroy, 35, made headlines last month when he filed for divorce from his wife of seven years, Erica Stoll, stating the marriage was “irretrievably broken” in court documents filed in Florida.

However, the pair called off their split last week, with McIlroy’s attorney confirming to Page Six that a notice of voluntary dismissal was submitted to a court in Palm Beach County, Fla., where the couple lives.
