Weird But True

Bride’s wedding dress catches fire mid-ceremony: ‘I ran to get a bucket of water’

Mostly every woman wants to look hot on her big day — but this bride’s dream went up in flames.

Rather than throwing rice, attendees at a springtime marriage ceremony were forced to throw buckets of water at the happy couple after the newlywed’s gown was set ablaze.

“POV: You’re live painting a wedding, when suddenly the bride and guests catch on fire,” wrote L.A. wedding artist and content creator, Bailey, in the closed caption of her eye-popping TikTok post.

Bailey, a live wedding painter in Los Angeles, scored over 434,000 TikTok views on a video showing a bride catch on fire during her March 2024 nuptials. TikTok/@bailey.artstudios

Amassing over 434,000 views from stunned cyber spectators, the clip featured visuals of the just-married pair walking up the aisle — decorated with lit candles — as loved ones applauded their union.

A fierce flame suddenly sparked, momentarily engulfing the bride and groom, as well as a few well-wishers.

“I am SO relieved that no one was hurt. It’s entertaining now, but at the time it was TERRIFYING,” said Bailey in the caption of the viral vid.

“I was recording for content to go with the painting timelapse when this happened,” she added. “I actually dropped my phone and ran to get a bucket of water.”

Fire, unfortunately, has shown up as a repeat wedding crasher at a string of recent “I Do’s.”

A blushing brunette bride’s dress nearly became flame-broiled twice after she bumped into several decorative candles that lined her walkway to the altar.

However, not every big-day combustion is an accident.

Professional stunt doubles-turned-life partners Gabe Jessop and Ambyr Mishelle, 44, intentionally lit themselves on fire in celebration of their holy matrimony.

And a tipsy celebrant recently ensured that a twosome’s barnyard reception was lit — by charring their floral centerpieces during a drunken dance break.

Sooo about the wedding I painted this weekend… I am SO relieved that no one was hurt. It’s entertaining now, but at the time it was TERRIFYING. I was recording for content to go with the painting timelapse when this happened. I actually dropped my phone and ran to get a bucket of water. Amazingly, the bride kept smiling through it all! We later found out that she had several fire chiefs in the audience and trusted that they would handle the situation. But it was WILD 🔥 #weddingfire #firewedding #livepainter #wedding #weddingtiktok #bridetobe #bride #livepainting #weddingpainter #weddingpainting #weddingart #fyp #fypシ #fypage

Luckily, Bailey said the fiery fête she recently attended was immediately extinguished.

“Amazingly, the bride kept smiling through it all!,” the painter penned beneath the snippet, adding, however, that the wife’s all-white gown was “damaged” during the breakout.

“We later found out that she had several fire chiefs in the audience and trusted that they would handle the situation,” continued Bailey.

“But it was WILD.”
