Le’Veon Bell still ‘pissed’ about Adam Gase’s Jets play-calling

Several years later, Le’Veon Bell is still flabbergasted by Adam Gase’s play-calling.

Bell played for Gase on the Jets in 2019 and part of 2020 before he got disgruntled and ultimately released from the team.

On Thursday, this dissatisfaction with his role in the offense popped back into his mind and he wrote about it in a thread on X.

“I still randomly think about how PISSED I used to be in the huddle when Adam Gase would call ’21 dive’ on 2nd & 10,” Bell wrote, clarifying what the call meant.

“[T]hat’s a HALF BACK DIVE FROM SHOTGUN for the people that doesn’t understand what that fully means … lol.”

Bell, 32, claimed that former Jets quarterback Sam Darnold was similarly baffled by Gase’s play calls.

“Sam would be saying the play out loud just shakin his head in the huddle .. lol,” Bell wrote.

The former Jets running back said that Gase justified the play call by saying, “LeV I just need you to get 3 [yards] for a third and manageable.”

The Jets went 7-9 during Gase’s first year as head coach in 2019, but then had a disastrous 2-14 record in the bizarre COVID-19 season in 2020, and Gase was fired.

Bell had signed a four-year, $52.5 million deal with the Jets in 2019 after spending a year out of football amid a contract dispute with the Steelers, when he was electric and one of the best running backs in the league, but averaged just 3.3 yards per carry in 17 games with Gang Green.

For his part, Bell has had beef with disappointing and legendary coaches alike.

After getting released by the Jets, Bell landed with Kansas City, but did not like it much there.

“I’ll never play for Andy Reid again,” he wrote on Instagram in the summer of 2021. “I’d retire first.”

Reid and the Chiefs proceeded to win three of the next four Super Bowl championships.

Bell had 39 combined carries for the Ravens and Buccaneers in 2021, and has since been out of the NFL.
