Trump rakes in $141M in May donations, well above Biden’s haul of $85M

Former President Donald Trump’s massive May fundraising haul of $141 million has left Joe Biden in the dust, after the current commander-in-chief and the Democratic National Committee raised just $85 million toward his re-election effort, according to a report.

The 81-year-old incumbent’s May totals mark the second-best month of fundraising for his campaign and allied groups, the Biden campaign told CNBC on Thursday, noting that the president didn’t hold any major fundraisers or events last month.

The Biden re-election effort now has $212 million in cash on hand, up from the $192 million it had at the end of April, according to the outlet, which received the campaign’s latest fundraising figures.

“Our strong and consistent fundraising program grew by millions of people in May, a clear sign of strong and growing enthusiasm for the President and Vice President every single month,” Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement.

“The money we continue to raise matters, and it’s helping the campaign build out an operation that invests in reaching and winning the voters who will decide this election,” she added.

Biden’s May totals lag behind what Trump, 78, and the Republican National Committee said they brought in last month — a record-smashing $141 million.

Donors motivated by the historic guilty verdict in Trump’s Manhattan hush money trial gave an astonishing $53 million in the 24 hours after the verdict was read on May 30 — accounting for 37.6% of the total for the month.

The Trump campaign has not released the amount of cash on hand it had at the end of last month, which it is not required to report until July.

Trump’s team and the RNC outraised Biden and the DNC in April as well, when they brought in $76 million to the Democrats’ $51 million.
