Randall Cobb, family escape after Tesla charger causes house fire: ‘Lucky to be alive’

NFL wide receiver Randall Cobb and his family survived a house fire that apparently started with their Tesla charger in their garage.

Cobb’s wife, Aiyda, revealed details of the harrowing blaze on her Instagram story.

“We are lucky to be alive,” she wrote.

“The Tesla charger caught on fire in the garage late last night and quickly spread. We got out of the house with nothing but the clothes on our back and no shoes on our feet. I’ll explain more later but posting this in case I miss any appts, calls, texts, meetings. Thank you GOD.”

Aiyda included a photo of the family garage, which looked like a bomb had gone off.

The Cobbs have three young sons, Cade, Caspian and Chance.

Later on Wednesday, Randall provided an update on the situation on Instagram.

“Thank you all for the love and positive messages,” he wrote.

“First and foremost, we are all safe and healthy. We got out of the house and I was able to go back in and get our dog, Louie. We can’t thank Chief Caruthers, Captain Irvin and the Nashville Fire Department enough for their swift action. I can’t get the image of the brave firefighter getting into position out of my head; he didn’t even have water to shoot yet.

“I truly thought the cars were going to explode and that we would lode him to this tragedy. He is a true hero. Unfortunately we don’t know how much, if anything, will be salvageable, but this has been a reminder that nothing is more important than the health of our family. We are grateful for our incredible community in Nashville, and the support from our close friends that have given us a temporary roof over our heads and shoulders to lean on.”

Randall Cobb played last year for the Jets, joining the team along with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, whom he played with for 10 years on the Packers.

After spending his first eight NFL seasons in Green Bay, Cobb played one season apiece in Dallas and Houston, before returning for two more years with the Packers.

Last season, Cobb appeared in 11 games for the Jets, catching five balls and one touchdown; it is presumable that he would have had a more active role had Rodgers not gone down with a torn Achilles four snaps into the season in the opening game against the Bills.

Last offseason, he had wondered if his career might be over before Rodgers called on behalf of the Jets.

“I had no clue what [Rodgers] was saying to them but he called me, ‘Would you be interested?'” Cobb said recently on Barstool’s Bussin’ With the Boys podcast. “At the same time, I don’t want to just come here to just be [another guy].”
