Teigan Martin, South Florida tight end, killed in car crash at 20

Former University of South Florida tight end Teigan Martin, 20, was killed in a car crash on Monday. 

Martin was speeding on a highway in Carver County, Minn. when his car swerved into the oncoming traffic lane before falling into a roadside ditch and rolling, according to the local sheriff’s office.

Officials reported that Martin was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident and it was unclear if alcohol was involved.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Teigan Martin,” USF coach Alex Golesh said in a statement, according to Yahoo Sports. “His loss is felt profoundly by his teammates, our coaches and staff, and all those who knew and loved him. We extend our deepest sympathies to Teigan’s family and friends, and keep them in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.”

“We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Teigan Martin,” the university stated in a post on X. “We extend our thoughts and prayers to Teigan’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.”

Martin played high school football at Mayer Lutheran High School in his hometown of Mayer, Minn. 

During his senior season in 2021, Martin earned all-state honors and helped lead Mayer Lutheran to a state title. 

As a three-star prospect out of the 2022 high school class, Martin spent his first year in college at Liberty, but didn’t play any snaps.

He transferred to USF ahead of the 2023 season and again didn’t see the field. 

Joey Knight of the Tampa Bay Times reported that Martin was still attending USF but wasn’t participating with the football team.
