Bronny James fights back tears while watching Lakers draft him

The James family has been waiting for this moment for quite some time.

LeBron James’ son, Bronny, was drafted by the Lakers in the second round (No. 55) of the 2024 NBA Draft on Thursday.

The two will now be teammates, becoming the first father-son duo to ever play together in NBA history.

Bronny’s brother, Bryce, shared a heart-warming video on Instagram from the moment Bronny, who did not attend the draft, heard his name called on television.

Bronny fought back tears as the pick was made.

He was surrounded by family and friends as he watched on television.

Bronny’s mother and LeBron’s wife, Savannah, also shared her thoughts.

She posted a picture of LeBron holding Bronny when he was a small child, and captioned it with emojis.

James averaged 4.8 points last year as a freshman for USC, and also suffered cardiac arrest last July.

“I just want to … have people know my name is Bronny James and not be identified as just LeBron James’ son,” Bronny James said last month at the league’s scouting combine. “I would be happy about getting to the league instead of me thinking about playing with my dad. But that’s not my mindset at all. I’m just trying to put in the work and see where it takes me.

“My dream has always just been to put my name out, make a name for myself.”

Bronny’s agent, Rich Paul, reportedly warned teams not to draft him so that the Lakers could and he could join his father on the Lakers, according to ESPN.

“Rich Paul’s calling teams and saying, ‘Don’t take Bronny James.’” Myers said Thursday afternoon on ESPN. “He’s telling them, ‘Do not take them.’ OK? He’s saying, ‘Don’t take him. If you take him he’s going to Australia. So he has a plan and he has a place.”
