Dave Portnoy bets on Phillies to win World Series

Dave Portnoy’s wild sports betting hot streak may have come to an end, but it didn’t take long for the Barstool founder to get back into the action.

On Tuesday, Portnoy placed $200,000 on the Philadelphia Phillies to win the 2024 World Series at +600 for a potential $1.2 million profit.

The massive wager came the morning after Portnoy lost $70,000 on a bet on the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup.

“The streak ended last night,” Portnoy wrote on X after the Oilers’ Game 7 loss. “I can’t be mad at the Oilers. They gave it a great run. I’m glad my friend @elio82 won. Maybe he will bring money to the track next time. All good things must come to an end. Now it’s time to start a new streak. “

The Phillies bet could be the latest in what has been a profitable year for Portnoy, who claims to have won roughly $7 million on a handful of winning wagers, starting with a $1.5 million get on Michigan on New Year’s Day.

Portnoy followed that up with a $500,000 winning wager on the Chiefs to beat the 49ers in the Super Bowl.

In April, Portnoy had a week for the ages, winning $2.1 million on UConn’s national championship and banking $1.35 million on Scottie Scheffler’s Masters victory.

With their NBA title win earlier this month, the Celtics earned him another $1.6 million

Portnoy may have jinxed himself a bit in early June, calling for championship wins for the Celtics and Oilers before either series started.

“Guys I hate to be that guy but I have the Celtics for 1.1 million and the Oilers for another million,” Portnoy said on X. “If both those teams win I will be up 7.5 million in 2024 and have won every big event this year. This run should be taught in history books.”
