Magic Johnson excitedly welcomes Bronny James to Lakers: ‘Historic moment’

Bronny James has arrived — and the NBA world is greeting him.

The Lakers selected the son of LeBron James with the 55th pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft on Thursday, and it stirred up a storm across social media platforms.

Former Lakers legend Magic Johnson was one of many who is thrilled to see how the new James tandem will fare in the league.

“Congratulations to Bronny James on being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers,” Johnson wrote on X.

“This is a historic moment because LeBron and Bronny are the first father-son duo to play in the NBA at the same time and on the same team. Watching Bronny suit up for the @Lakers during Summer League in Vegas will be must-see TV!”

The 6-foot-2 guard hailing from USC also garnered other people’s attention from around the league.

That included Chris Paul, who wrote on X: “Special!! Congrats, Bronny!”

Others couldn’t wrap their heads around how surreal the moment was.

“Imagine being able to play with your son! This is historic, having 2 boys my self I couldn’t image how that would feel,” Zach LaVine added.

Dejounte Murray felt similarly.

“BRON Getting To See His Son In The Same Jersey As Him Gotta Be The Biggest FLEX 💪🏽 Shoutout BRONNY!!!!!” he wrote on X.

Despite having a limited collegiate career due to suffering cardiac arrest last summer, Bronny still showed out at the combine this year.

He placed third in 3-point shooting and ranked sixth in vertical leap at 40.5 inches.

He now has the chance to showcase what he’s got at the highest level — with his dad right by his side.
