Why the Yankees need patience with DJ LeMahieu’s struggles — for now

TORONTO — DJ LeMahieu is going to get a runway.

What happens at the end of it — taking off or falling off a cliff — remains very much in question.

The calls have already begun on social media for the Yankees to bench LeMahieu in the midst of his offensive struggles upon returning from the injured list. After missing the first two months of the season because of a non-displaced fracture in his right foot, LeMahieu entered Thursday batting just 13-for-73 (.178) with 13 singles and a .452 OPS.

But Aaron Boone made it clear this week that the Yankees are going to keep running LeMahieu out there in hopes of finally finding his groove.
