Angel Reese’s brutal shooting day brings record WNBA double-double streak to end vs. Liberty

Angel Reese’s historic WNBA double-double streak came to a frustrating end.

The Chicago Sky rookie fell two points shy of a 16th consecutive double-double, finishing with eight points and 16 rebounds on 3-for-13 shooting in an 81-67 home loss to the Liberty on Saturday.

Reese had plenty of chances to extend her run but struggled mightily from the field – including an open layup late in the fourth quarter.

The Liberty, who saw Reese nab her 15th straight double-double against them on Thursday, seemed determined not to let her get there this time.

The team basically quadrupled-teamed Reese near the left block with 17 seconds to go in the game.

Reese drew contact on a shot attempt from under the basket near the 2:00 mark of the fourth, but no foul was called.

A frustrated Reese also received a tech after arguing a foul call on a rebound with 7:07 remaining.

The former LSU star moved ahead of Candice Parker’s previous record of 12 double-doubles last Sunday.
