Bryson DeChambeau: It was an ‘honor’ to golf, make YouTube video with Donald Trump

The invitation is open.

Bryson DeChambeau, the two-time U.S. Open winner, said he would be “more than willing” to have a Democrat on his “Break 50” YouTube video series after former President Donald Trump appeared in an episode that debuted on Tuesday.

The golfer also called it an “honor” to play with the former president and described the “content piece” as a way to produce something unique on the video-sharing platform.

DeChambeau has maintained that the collaboration with the 45th President and current Republican presidential nominee was not about politics and that the invitation is out there if anyone on the Democratic side wanted to join him on the links.

“I’m more than willing to play with them. I have no issues whatsoever,” DeChambeau said Thursday ahead of this week’s LIV Golf UK event at JCB Golf & Country Club. “I think that’s the thing about golf, the more we can utilize golf to bring everyone together in a cool way that’s the vision of the global game of golf. It’s important for me inspiring a younger generation is huge for me and that’s why this YouTube space is so cool, ’cause it really shows people’s true sides.

“I think that’s what I’m trying to accomplish and it’s definitely helped me in that regard and I can’t wait to hopefully do it with others.”

The 30-year-old said his team also “asked the other side,” though it’s unclear if that meant President Joe Biden or another high-profile Democrat.

The video with Trump already has nearly 7 million views on YouTube and helped DeChambeau’s already popular channel grow exponentially as the “Break 50” episode trended as the top video on the platform after it was released Tuesday morning.

The concept of DeChambeau’s video series is to try and shoot a round in fewer than 50 strokes with a partner, with previous episodes including Sergio Garcia and Paige Spiranac as guests

The video with Trump was filmed at Trump Bedminster in New Jersey, and the duo managed to finish at exactly 50 from the red tees at the course.

The episode was filmed on July 6 prior to the assassination attempt on Trump a week later during a rally in Pennsylvania.

It was released two days after Biden announced that he would not seek re-election for a second term in the White House.

DeChambeau told reporters that it took a little bit of time to set up and that it was “a lot of fun to do.”

The LIV star also called Trump a “pretty good golfer.”

The video largely remained apolitical — though there was one swipe at the current commander in chief about his golf game — with the conversation focusing on golf and some of the former president’s musical preferences.
