NYC Mayor Eric Adams hit with first subpoena over 2021 campaign

Mayor Eric Adams was slapped with a grand jury subpoena by federal prosecutors digging into his 2021 campaign fundraising, law enforcement sources confirmed Thursday.

Adams, City Hall and his election committee were all handed subpoenas in July as part of the months-long probe, sources said.

The three subpoenas are seeking text messages, documents and other communications and materials, sources said.

The development was first reported by the New York Times.

A lawyer representing Adams, 63, and the campaign confirmed the latest legal maneuver and said Hizzoner has done nothing illegal.

Attorney Brendan McGuire said since the feds launched their probe nine months ago, the campaign has conducted its “own investigation of the areas we understand the US Attorney’s Office has been reviewing.”

The campaign’s internal investigation includes combing over campaign documents, tens of thousands of electronic communications and witness interviews, he said.

“To be clear, we have not identified any evidence of illegal conduct by the Mayor,” McGuire said in a statement to The Post.

“To the contrary, we have identified extensive evidence undermining the reported theories of federal prosecution as to the Mayor, which we have voluntarily shared with the US Attorney.”

McGuire said the campaign continues to cooperate with the feds and are in the process of responding to the recently issued subpoenas.

“We continue to look forward to a prompt and just resolution of this investigation.” he said.

The inquiry began in November, when prosecutors started looking into allegations of the Turkish government illegally sending money to the mayor’s campaign.

It’s also exploring how Adams helped fast-track the opening of the Turkish government’s new diplomatic headquarters in Manhattan, sources previously told The Post.

Adams acknowledged last year he assisted, but made clear there was nothing nefarious and simply what elected officials do for constituents.

Emails to federal officials were not immediately returned on Thursday evening.
