Notorious ‘Pillowcase Rapist’ due to be released yet again over DA’s objection: ‘Irresponsible and unjust’

A notorious California serial sex fiend dubbed the “Pillowcase Rapist” is due to be cut loose — despite the objections of the Los Angeles County DA’s office that locked him up years ago.

Christopher Hubbart, 63, who has boasted that he raped as many as 40 women dating back to the 1970s, has been recommended for release by a Santa Clara judge and is scheduled for a hearing next month to determine where he will be living, prosecutors said this week.

The decision — which could place the dangerous felon within 40 miles of the city he once prowled — irked Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon, who called it “irresponsible and unjust.”

“Repeatedly placing these individuals in the same community shows a blatant disregard for the safety and well-being of our residents,” Gascon said in a statement this week.

“Our deputy district attorneys will persist in opposing Mr. Hubbart’s placement in the Antelope Valley,” he said. “We must demand more from our judicial system, ensuring decisions serve the best interest of our community while exploring alternative locations for these placements.”

Hubbart was given the sickening nickname for his habit of covering his victim’s heads with a pillowcase during the attacks, The LostAngeles Times reported.

In all, he has admitted to 44 sex crimes over a span of 18 years, the outlet said.

The sexual predator was first arrested in 1972 on charges of rape, sodomy and attempted rape for breaking into the homes of 10 women and was sent to a mental hospital after a guilty plea.

He was released in 1979 and moved to the Bay Area, where he was arrested again two years later and convicted of new charges of rape and burglary stemming from a new series of new sex assaults.

After nearly eight years behind bars Hubbart was released again, only to be convicted once more in 1990 and shipped back to prison, where he remained for 10 more years, Gascon said.

After his release in 2000, he was committed to remain in state hospitals as a sexually violent predator.

Hubbart was ultimately released again under supervision but violated the terms and was shipped back to a state hospital in 2014. Then, in March 2023, a Santa Clara court granted his conditional release.

A California court’s decision to release convicted “Pillowcase Rapist” Christopher Hubbart into the community has sparked objections from residents and pols. foxla

A hearing on Oct. 1 will determine where exactly the ex-con will live after his pending release — with wary residents and pols expected to raise concerns over the decision.

“While I understand that the state performs a comprehensive study and assessment before proposing a site, nothing takes the place of the real-world perspectives that only community members can offer,” said LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who represents the region where Hubbart is likely to be placed.

“I want to ensure my constituents are kept informed about this process and have every opportunity to weight in on the decision,” Barger said in a statement.
