Lawsuits piling up for Boar’s Head following listeria outbreak that killed 9

At least seven lawsuits have now been filed against Boar’s Head since the cold cut company recalled its products after a listeria outbreak that’s killed nine people, including one New Yorker, according to a report.

A total of 58 people were sickened in 18 states by spoiled meat originating from Boar’s Heads tainted Virginia plant, which had reports of mold, mildew, and insects.

The company recalled millions of pounds of deli meats after people started getting ill.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the number of actual cases during the outbreak was likely much higher.

It marks the largest listeria outbreak in the U.S. since 2011.

The lawsuits against Boar’s Head include claims of personal injuries, wrongful death, and deceptive marketing practices. One class-action suit filed in New York has an ever growing number of claimants.

One of the lawsuits was filed by the surviving relatives of Günter Morgenstein, a Holocaust survivor who died in July after consuming tainted liverwurst.

According to the complaint, Morgenstein’s died from sepsis and listeria meningitis after spending 10 days in the hospital.

That lawsuit alleges the 88-year-old Virginia man’s death was a direct result of his eating sullied deli meat.

The different lawsuits seek damages ranging from $25,000 to more than $5 million.
