The Best Indiana Sports Betting Sites – June 2024

Indiana Sports Betting

Indiana joined the growing list of legal sports betting states in September 2019. It only took four months for the Hoosier State to go from legalization to the launch of its first retail sportsbooks.

Legal online and mobile betting began just a month later. These rapid developments reflected the keen appetite for sports betting in the Midwestern state and Indiana hasn’t looked back since.

Sports betting is thriving with various retail sportsbooks currently taking wagers, complemented by almost as many active sportsbook apps.

The range of land-based options such as casinos, casino resorts, and sports pubs spread from Lake Michigan down to Evansville, gives state-wide players many opportunities to enjoy a more collective betting experience.

Latest Indiana Sports Betting News

Indiana sports betting is going from strength to strength early in 2022. The Hoosier State continued its record-breaking streak in January 2022, by recording its highest sports betting handle for a fifth straight month.

This is according to figures released by the Indiana Gaming Commission. The January state revenue report showed that Indiana residents bet $348.2 million in the month of January. That topped the previous record handle of $313.1 million set in December.

This is largely to do with the great sportsbook offerings from leading state operators such as BetMGM, FanDuel, DraftKings, BetRivers, and Fanatics.

Unsurprisingly, 85 percent of the total revenue was taken online, showing the strength of mobile applications across Indiana and the legal US states generally.

Caesars recently announced that Caesars Racebook will be launching in Indiana, with IN being the third state in which this’ll be available, joining Florida and Ohio.

Additionally, Betr Sportsbook may launch in Indiana soon due to its acquisition of sports wagering market access in the state. As of February 15th, 2024, the Indiana Gaming Commission has granted Betr a temporary license for mobile sports betting. This should give Indiana bettors hope that the platform is one step closer to launching within the state.

Indiana Sports Teams to Bet On

Although Indiana’s biggest pro teams have been a little shy of success in recent times, (barring the Colts’ 2006 Super Bowl win), collegiate basketball remains arguably the Hoosier State’s greatest source of pride.

Notre Dame, Purdue University, and Indiana University are all consistently well ranked in the NCAA Division 1 for basketball.

Meanwhile, the Boilermakers and the Fighting Irish are always a threat in the pursuit of NCAA football glory.

With one of the richest choices of collegiate athletics teams of states nationwide, Hoosiers are not shy of sports betting options on their favorite teams.

Indiana Pacers

The Pacers’ NBA history has left a little to be desired considering their rich ABA pedigree and the passion for hoops across Indiana.

Before the leagues merged to form the NBA in the mid-70s, Pacers fans were treated to three of the nine ABA championships contested. A record.

A sole appearance in the NBA finals at the turn of the millennium remains the franchise’s furthest foray since. Either side of that near-miss, Hall-of-Famers Larry Bird and latterly Reggie Miller fell short at the Conference Finals.

Indianapolis Colts

The switch to the AFC South back in 2002 ushered in the Colts’ best period with Tony Dungy at the helm. Peyton Manning flourished under Dungy as did the franchise, picking up their maiden Super Bowl in 2006 and adding another AFC Championship in 2009.

Of course, those with a longer memory will also point to the 1970 Super Bowl triumph in their former guise as the Baltimore Colts.

Despite getting one over Mannings’ Broncos when winning the 2014 Divisional Playoffs, the pickings have been a lot slimmer since unfortunately for Indianapolis natives.

Indianapolis Indians

The Victory Field residents are often among the most well-supported Minor League teams in the Triple-A-East. Indeed, back in 1999, Baseball America dubbed the Indians’ new home, “the best minor league ballpark in America.”

Twelve former players have wound up in the Baseball Hall of Fame having donned the red and black at some point in their careers.

The Indians have been the minor league affiliates of the Pittsburgh Pirates since 2005.

Purdue Boilermakers

If you’re a basketball fan, the name Purdue carries significant weight in the college sports arena.

The Boilermakers are none other than the Big 10 Conference’s most decorated team. The West Lafayette-based team has hauled 24 championship titles.

Under Matt Painter’s stewardship, the Mackey Arena residents have also reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen three times.

The Boilermakers’ best finish was their most recent when Painter guided his charges to the Elite Eight for the first time.

Purdue University’s football counterparts across campus have failed to reel in their fair share of success.

With famous alumni including Len Dawson, Rod Woodson, and more recently Drew Brees to name a few, the Boilermakers are a proven launchpad to NFL stardom.

When Brees led the Saints to victory in Super Bowl XLIV, Purdue became just the second college in history to produce three different Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks.

However, they only have one Big Ten Conference championship to their name in comparison.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

If the name Purdue holds considerable weight on the hallowed college courts, it’s uttered somewhat disdainfully over at Notre Dame.

The two Indiana schools are big rivals in the collegiate arena, and that’s testament to their respective sports teams’ prowess.

Unfortunately for the Fighting Irishs’ basketball fans, it’s always been a story of nearly, and arguably not nearly enough. Perhaps praising consistency would be a better angle for Fighting Irish fans instead.

They have appeared in the NCAA tournament a record 36 times without winning the national championship after all. Still, a national rank of 8th on all-time wins and 9th in NCAA tournament bids is an ongoing legacy to savor.

On the football side, a roll call of 11 national championships with Notre Dame’s name on them is certainly a badge of honor.

Albeit the last of those arrived in 1988.  More recent achievements include sending current Saints quarterback Ian Brook to the NFL in the fourth round of the 2020 draft.
