Could this hair growth device be the fix for thinning hair?

If biotin pills, medicated shampoos, and castor oil haven’t done squat to regrow your thinning mane, there’s a hair regrowth device that may help.

The Laduora DUO is a 4-in-1 system that combines red light therapy, microcurrent, therapeutic warmth, and micro-message to awaken hair follicles and boost hair growth. Over time, this could lead to thicker, healthier hair.

Pros:

  • Offers four hair growth therapies in one device
  • Small enough to travel with
  • Only needs to be used for 5 minutes a day
  • Comes with two Boost pod sets
  • Cordless design

Cons:

  • Takes up to 3-4 months to see results

The first time I came across Laduora DUO was online. As most of you know, the algorithm knows everything, including my struggles with thinning hair. It suggested a video by a creator who had recently grown her own locks back with the device’s help.

Like me, she had experienced hair loss due to stress.

According to the Mayo Clinic, high levels of stress can result in patchy bald spots and excess shedding during washing and brushing. As someone with telogen effluvium, I can attest to this.

Other than stress, there are some other reasons that women and men lose their hair. According to the Journal of Preventative Medicine and Hygiene, genetics, poor diet, hormonal issues, and childbirth can all contribute to a lack of density and overall growth.

Unlike supplements for combating hair loss, which don’t have much in the way of clinical research attached to them, the Laduora DUO uses several modalities that all have been shown to regrow hair and promote a healthier scalp.

Red Light Therapy: Red Light therapy (RLT) uses low-level red and near-infrared light to fight inflammation, increase blood circulation to tissue, as well as improve fibroblast production to make collagen. In a 2021 study published in Annals of Dermatology, researchers found that red light of 650 nanometers (nm) aided in the growth of hair follicles in patients with androgenetic alopecia. It’s believed that red light between 630 and 700 nm can go deep enough to penetrate the scalp and stimulate hair growth.

Microcurrent: Similar to RLT, microcurrent also promotes blood circulation by way of low-level electric current. In a 2021 study published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, microcurrent therapy was shown to increase hair growth through the creation of new hair follicles, as well as to boost protein signaling, which also tells hair follicles to grow and produce more.

Therapeutic warmth: This simple but effective treatment not only aids in relaxation to combat stress but also increases blood circulation. The latter helps bring more oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles to promote growth.

Massage: While there haven’t been recent studies, there is some literature about the benefit of scalp massage. One such study published in 2016 showed that the practice improved symptoms in those with Androgenetic alopecia, as well as boosted hair growth in the non-balding. Again, this may be a result of increased blood circulation, which helps the hair follicle receive more oxygen and nutrients.

Within the last three years, I’ve experienced two moves, a changing of jobs, a breakup, and surgery. Any of these things could result in thinning hair, but all together? Major shedding.

I’ve had blood work done multiple times, as well as seen a number of doctors and dermatologists. Biologically speaking, I’m completely healthy. Stress is my issue. Considering that nearly half of all Americans report being extremely stressed out, I’m sure at least some of you relate.

How does Laduro DUO work?

The Laduro DUO looks a lot like a brush but really is a handheld device that gives multiple hair growth treatments at one time. It comes with two hair treatment pods: The Balance Duo Pod Scalp & Elixir, which has raspberry seed and castor oil, and the Boost Follicle Boost Serum which has peptides and caffeine.

The device doesn’t require either to work but both offer additional nutrients to benefit the scalp.

The are three different modes that can be used with the device, which are selected based on the pod you’re using. The white mode is the most gentle (none of the modes hurt, FYI), while green is to be used with the Balance Serum. The blue mode is for the Boost Serum.

The device can be used on wet or dry hair. Select the pod, turn it on, and then slowly brush through your hair.

How long will it take to see results with the Laduora Duo?

The Laduora DUO only needs to be used for 5 minutes per day. It will take 3-4 months to see results. If you’re using other hair regrowth treatments, like minoxidil, you can still use the device.

Does the Laduora DUO work?

I’ve only been using the device for less than a month, so I still have a way to go before I see major improvement. However, the before and afters on the company’s website indicate the device works.

“The feel, the ease of use and the results are real!” wrote one reviewer. “Not often do I say something makes my holy grail list…but this does,” another said.

The bristles of the brush are small and metal, so I suggest using a regular brush to comb out knots and tangles first.

For those unfamiliar with microcurrent, there is a buzzy/zippy feeling when you place the device on your scalp. Don’t worry, it’s totally normal. The machine will also vibrate as part of its massage function, which I found relaxing and therapeutic.

The serum is slowly released as the device is moved over the scalp. I found it to be a small amount, and it didn’t leave my hair greasy or dirty feeling whatsoever.

I like using the Laduora DUO at night while watching TV. I’m busy, but have the extra 5 minutes here or there, especially if I can do something else at the same time.

In terms of price, the device is affordable, especially compared to similar devices on the market. And considering that it uses multiple therapies to combat hair loss (most only offer one), it’s like buying four devices for the price of one.

The Laduora DUO is currently on sale. It comes with a 1-year warranty, and if you’re not impressed, it can be sent back within the first 30 days for a full refund.
