Prince Harry’s ‘cruel’ fight with Meghan Markle led him to therapy

Prince Harry sought therapy after “cruelly” speaking to Meghan Markle during an argument, he reveals in “Spare.”

The Duke of Sussex writes in the book, out Jan. 10, that he “became touchy” and “snapped” when a conversation with the “Suits” alum “took an unexpected turn”

The 38-year-old royal recalls being “disproportionately, sloppily angry” with Markle, addressing her “harshly” enough that “everything in the room [came] to a stop.”

After spending a “full 15 minutes apart,” Harry and the “Deal or No Deal” alum, 41, eventually spoke in their bedroom.

“She was calm, but said in a quiet, level tone that she would never stand for being spoken to like that.”

Markle also said she would not “tolerate” that behavior in the future, nor would she “raise children in an atmosphere of anger or disrespect.”

When the former actress went on to ask where her partner’s outburst “came from” and whether he “overhear[d] adults speak that way … growing up,” the prince replied, “Yes.”

“It came from somewhere deep inside, somewhere that needed to be excavated, and it was obvious that I could use some help with the job.”

When he told Markle that he had “tried therapy” when William told him to go but “never found the right person,” she replied, “No. … Try again.”

Harry has hinted at this interaction with his wife in the past, telling “The Me You Can’t See” viewers in May 2021 that Markle helped him seek therapy.

“When she said, ‘I think you need to see someone,’ it was in reaction to an argument we had. In that argument, not knowing about it, I reverted back to 12-year-old Harry.”

In October of the following year, the Duke of Sussex credited therapy with renewed “confidence,” as well as “perspective and a great understanding” of his value.
