Join us at our upcoming Brain, Body and Behaviour workshop in Waihi. This workshop is for educators, professionals, parents, whānau and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of autistic and neurodivergent children and ways we can support them. Gain insights into the biology beneath behaviour with a compassionate approach that supports understanding of emotions and the development of self-regulation skills in children. We are excited to announce the first of three, two-hour, online workshops in the series Barriers and Pathways to a Good Life: Autism, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FSAD), and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). These professional development workshops are a partnership between New Zealand Disability Support Network (NZDSN), Te Pou and Te Whāriki o te Ara Oranga, and are being delivered as part of the implementation of the Equitable Access to Wellbeing Framework (EAW). Join Doctors Rochelle Nafatali and Taima Fagaloa in this talanoa about the research: https://lnkd.in/ghrp5ZyP Key themes include:  🌺 Uncharted islands - Parent's experiences of referrals and diagnosis directly impacted their abilities to accept that diagnosis and to move forward positively. 🌺 Encountering stormy seas - Pacific parents face challenges including in the responses of health workers and discrimination. 🌺 Collective unity - There are great strengths within our families and communities. 🌺 The land of milk and honey - When it comes to the autism support system, its not as perfect as some may hope. 🌺 Our children can learn their language according to their capacity, and it won't stop their growth as some believe.  This can be hugely beneficial to their learning - but should depend on the goals of the parents and children. 🌺 Learning about and adapting to new ways can help to bring out the best in our children.
