✨ As the Matariki star cluster rises, we’re launching Te Mātahi, a new business lending programme to support entrepreneurship and grow the Māori economy.    Delivered in partnership with Poutama Trust and other partners, Te Mātahi will assist Māori owned growth companies with the next stage of their business through capital, mentorship, resources for scaling and access to networks that can open doors to domestic and international markets.    Anthony Ririnui, Kaihautū Māori of Te Waka Whaihua (ASB’s Māori banking team), says there’s a demonstrated need for a tailored approach to lending to Māori businesses.    "Research by Te Pūtea Matua, Reserve Bank of New Zealand, shows Māori are underrepresented in business ownership and Māori businesses face higher funding costs than non-Māori businesses due to their ownership structures and characteristics. Te Mātahi offers both access to finance, support and networks to enable trade opportunities for growth,” says Ririnui.

Mānawatia a Matariki 💫 A time to remember and reflect, and set our aspirations for the year ahead. This year we were proud to host our very first hautapu ceremony to remember those who have passed, and we shared knowledge at a mahi raranga (weaving) workshop. Ngā mihi, ASB’s Kāpuia Māori Network and everyone who made these events happen 💛 Penny Howard | Rawinia Snowden | Anita Cooper | Rereata Hardman-Miller | Ariana Flaherty | Tania Harris Let us know in the comments how you’re hashtag #CelebratingMatariki 👇

This National Volunteer Week, we want to recognise everyone who dedicates their time to important causes, such as Youthline 💛💙 Matthew, one of our ASB volunteers supporting Youthline says, “The work Youthline are doing for youth mental health is life-changing. Through their comprehensive training programme I learned how to effectively listen, connect and create a safe space for others. I’m proud to play my part and hopefully help someone along the way.” Youthline’s Helpline is nationwide, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to support our rangatahi when they need it most. We are proud to be on this journey with them. Thank you to Matthew and all volunteers across Aotearoa New Zealand who give their time to this vital service 👏 #NVW2024

🌏 As a business in Aotearoa New Zealand, it’s important to us that we continue learning and strengthening how we understand and apply Te Ao Māori (the Māori world view) to help us fulfil our mission, to accelerate progress for all New Zealanders.   Over the past three months, more than 300 of our ASB whānau have engaged and completed a Te Ao Māori cultural capability workshop, which explores elements and concepts of the Māori world view, including tikanga (Māori customs) and te reo Māori. The workshops, delivered in partnership with strategic Māori development consultancy Mather Solutions Ltd, focus on whanaungatanga (connections) and creating a safe space for learning.   Anita Cooper, ASB’s Employee Experience Lead – Kaimahi Māori, says, “ASB team members from across Aotearoa had the opportunity to participate in these meaningful workshops and come away feeling uplifted and eager to develop a better understanding of Te Ao Māori.”
