As the stars of Matariki took centre sky this season, our colleagues from across Te Pēke o Aotearoa (Bank of New Zealand) gathered in the dawn light to honour this special time of year ✨ With seven special events taking place at BNZ offices around the country, colleagues from all backgrounds took this time to reflect, set ambitions for the year ahead, and embrace whanaungatanga – the honouring of relationships, connection with whānau and community, and a sense of belonging. We attended the BNZ Matariki celebrations held in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) and Te Whānganui a Tara (Wellington), where the Māori new year was welcomed with karakia (ritual chants), waiata (singing), sharing of kai (food), and building tūhononga (connection) with BNZers from across the bank. Ngā mihi ki a koutou for your kōrero on Matariki this year! Dan Huggins, CEO BNZ, Rehutai Roberts, Senior Business Process Improvement Analyst (Ngāpuhi), Erica Salvador, Learning Coordinator, and Hemi Pinfold-Whanga Customer Service Banker (Ngāi Tūhoe me Waikato-Tainui). From everyone here at BNZ, we hope you’re able to enjoy this Matariki season with your loved ones and those who matter most to you. Matariki Hunga Nui – Matariki brings people together 💙 For more on our commitments and ambitions for the future see https://lnkd.in/gYcHKK_4

With a long history of supporting farmers across Aotearoa New Zealand, we’re proud to be backing AgriZeroNZ to help find a way to a lower emissions future. A world-first public-private partnership, AgriZeroNZ aims to ensure all New Zealand farmers have quicker access to solutions by investing in tools that help reduce emissions and maintain New Zealand’s competitive advantage in agriculture. Since its establishment in 2023, the organisation has committed more than $29 million across 10 high impact opportunities to bring emissions reduction solutions to market for New Zealand farmers. “BNZ has a long history of banking New Zealand farmers, and over that time we have worked alongside our farming customers as they have continually adapted and innovated to meet changing market dynamics.” Our CEO, Dan Huggins, believes, “this public-private partnership approach to addressing on farm emissions continues that tradition, helping to ensure New Zealand maintains a resilient and productive agricultural sector into the future.” Learn more about our partnership with AgriZeroNZ here https://lnkd.in/ej5wyFdk

Striding with pride 🌈 Yesterday staff, friends, allies, and Pride folks from Bank of New Zealand, ASB Bank, The Co-operative Bank, Kiwibank, and Westpac New Zealand joined together for a 21-minute walk to support Sweat with Pride Aotearoa. These walking events took place right across the country, and were an opportunity to show solidarity and collective care for our vibrant Pride communities. We’re proud to be in a banking sector that embraces diversity and inclusion. Sweat with Pride’s fundraising supports organisations like Burnett Foundation Aotearoa, RainbowYOUTH, OutLine Aotearoa, and InsideOUT Kōaro. They do amazing mahi for the Pride community, including counselling, education, advocacy, and peer support. Our walk together symbolised our collective support for our rainbow friends, family, and colleagues. 💜 💙 💚 💛 🧡 ❤️

We’re helping Breast Cancer Foundation NZ (BCFNZ) drive breast health awareness across Aotearoa 🚌 We recently donated a bus to BCFNZ, joining its fleet of breast health education vehicles. The vehicle is no stranger to supporting communities, having previously travelled New Zealand as the BNZ Bus, a mobile branch supporting rural customers with their banking. With its hot pink makeover complete, we were delighted to reveal the freshly refurbished bus at our pink ribbon breakfast last month, and hand over the keys to our friends at BCFNZ. BCFNZ plays a vital role in providing support to those affected by breast cancer, and we’re proud to play a small part in their lifechanging, lifesaving work. With their sights set on Northland first, the team at BCFNZ are looking forward to reaching more whānau and communities across Aotearoa. Check out the highlights from our pink ribbon breakfast featuring Ah-Leen Rayner, Breast Cancer Foundation NZ CEO, Dan Huggins, BNZ CEO, Joanne McNaughton, BNZ Head of Māori Colleague Strategy and @Natalie James, BCFNZ Lead Nurse. 🎀 For more about our donation, see https://lnkd.in/gn8jVASw

Given it’s #WorldOceansDay, we’d like to honour the amazing mahi being done by Revive Our Gulf in helping restore biodiversity in the Hauraki Gulf. The BNZ Foundation has been supporting the regeneration of biodiversity in our oceans by partnering with Revive Our Gulf who have deployed over 350 tonnes of mussels into the Hauraki Gulf to date, creating homes for marine life and natural filters for our waters – Kūtai (green-lipped mussels) play a critical role in clearing sediment from seawater. By integrating modern marine science with mātauranga Māori, Revive Our Gulf are working toward restoring degraded areas of the Gulf. Supported by the BNZ Foundation, the 'Eyes in the Water' initiative has been able to expand ocean monitoring capability which helps to inform restoration plans beyond the mussel beds. Check out these tips from Katina Conomos, Kaihautū/Programme Director at Revive Our Gulf, on how you can play a part in helping regenerate our ocean biodiversity https://lnkd.in/gEsdacMg #ReviveOurGulf #BNZFoundation #OceanRegeneration [📷 Shaun Lee]
