A massive congratulations to Beef + Lamb New Zealand Ambassador Chef chetan pangam, of One80 restaurant, for being a finalist in this year’s Visa Wellington on a Plate (WOAP) festival. He was last year's winner. 👏 A key ingredient to Chetan's burger is Lumina lamb, and includes a Galouti (an Indian delicacy meaning ‘melt-in-your-mouth’) lamb patty, pulled lamb Supreme shoulder filo cigar, lamb fat ‘snow’, ghee, coriander, mint labneh, and chicory, all nestled in a croissant bun. “I love showcasing the work our farmers carry out to both our local and international guests," he said. The Government recently announced it will introduce legislation by the end of this year to change New Zealand’s regulations around gene technology, setting up a dedicated regulator to oversee applications to use gene technology, similar to the Australian approach. Independent research into farmers' preliminary views on gene technologies, commissioned by B+LNZ, reveals a wide range of farmer opinions and a need for more information about gene technology and exactly what the potential regulatory changes could mean for them. B+LNZ recently hosted a webinar on the implications of an independent review of the suspended fine sediment and E.coli national bottom lines and the impacts on sheep and beef farmers. The webinar drew around 120 participants, including officials, scientists, regional councils and farmers. Congratulations to the 2024 graduates of B+LNZ's Generation Next Programme from the North Island cohort. 👏👏👏 Over the course of three workshops held over six months, participants gained a solid foundation in financial management, enhanced their decision-making abilities—from genetics to setting personal goals—explored new technologies and ideas to bring back to their farms, and learned how to foster a positive team culture in the workplace. All North Island participants recently completed their final module, which focused on understanding the journey livestock undergo at the processing plant. South Island participants will be graduating later this year. B+LNZ will soon launch the B+LNZ Generation Next Programme Alumni, aimed at fostering long-term connections among participants. Fraser Tasker, alongside his wife Lisa, runs a diverse farming operation in Ruapuna, Mid Canterbury. Fraser was inspired to join the B+LNZ Northern South Island Farmer Council to offer a fresh perspective and become more involved in the industry. "I saw it as a fantastic opportunity to extend and challenge myself, to learn from other like-minded farmers and industry experts," he says. He finds great value in connecting with other B+LNZ Farmer Councillors, both locally and nationwide, and enjoys the opportunity to contribute to shaping what B+LNZ do for farmers in his region. “I really enjoy getting to know other Farmer Councillors and hearing about the opportunities and challenges they face and what they are doing differently on their farm. Some of their challenges could be relevant in the future to farmers in my area. Fraser encourages others to consider joining B+LNZ’s Farmer Council, especially those who want to engage with like-minded individuals and contribute to shaping B+LNZ's initiatives. "It's a great way to help shape the way B+LNZ delivers in your community and adds value back to farm businesses and agriculture as a whole," he notes.
